WOW! That was crazy!!! A HUGE THANK YOU to all of you who pitched in to help out on Friday afternoon/evening as we hosted the Nebo Invitational. It was a great success and a great meet we felt. We couldn't have done it without the 20-30 parents who so willingly helped us with everything. It was a wonderful experience for us coaches to see so much support from all of you. THANK YOU!!!

Also, last Wednesday we went over to Spanish Fork and raced against SF, Payson and Provo. Those results can be found HERE.
This week we have one of our team's favorite meets of the whole season--CEDAR CITY!!!! WAHOO!!! We will be leaving Salem Hills HS at 10:00 am on Friday. We'll stop in Fillmore for lunch, so be sure to bring your own lunch. We'll race Friday afternoon at Cedar High School, then head back to the hotel (Quality Inn--Cedar City) for a Pizza/Pool Party that evening. Saturday morning we'll get up early, eat breakfast and hit the road. We should be home by 12:00 noon on Saturday.

Sagebrush Ramble Results
Sorry I forgot to post these results earlier this week. These are our results from the Sagebrush Ramble at North Sanpete from this past weekend. We had a pretty good night with our girls winning handily and our boys taking 2nd. Congratulations to Sierra and Tate for their 1st place finishes!

Wasatch Invite Results & Upcoming Meets
This past weekend we traveled to Soldier Hollow for one of our team's favorite races of the year--The Wasatch Invitational. As always, our team showed very well and represented our school well. We had some wonderful individual performances and some great team performances! Great job conquering the mountains of Soldier Hollow!! The complete results can be found right HERE!

- Tuesday, September 11th--Salem Hills @ Payson. We will head south a couple miles to race against Payson and ??? (we're not sure who else will be there...). It will be at the new ballparks directly EAST of Payson High School (NOT at the school). Girls will race at 4:00, Boys race at 4:30. Let's go dominate!
- Bus leaves at 2:45 pm
- Friday, September 14th--Ramble through the Sagebrush Invitational @ North Sanpete HS. This is NOT the race at the Golf Course in Fairview--That's in a couple weeks. This meet will be at North Sanpete High School (390 E. 700 S., Mt. Pleasant), and the fields South of the school. It should be a nice Friday afternoon invitational with some solid teams. Girls will race at 4:00, Boys will race at 4:45. At this point they are planning on combining Varsity/JV into one race each. That may change if numbers become too large.

- Wednesday, September 19th--Salem Hills @ Spanish Fork. This meet will be at the "new" ballfields in Spanish Fork (The softball/tennis complex). The races will begin near the tennis courts. Girls race at 4:00, Boys at 4:30.

- Friday, September 21st--Nebo Invitational @ SALEM HILLS HS. This is our BIG Invitational we are hosting. It will have about 20 teams at our facility, so we are going to need your help getting ready for it! It should be a great meet!

Last week, we did an intersquad race,of sorts, that we call "The Chase." We have the results of that little race. You can look up the times HERE.

We've had some great performances over the past few weeks. We are seeing a ton of great improvement from a lot of you! It's becoming obvious who is working hard each day, as we watch times continue to improve! Keep up the great work!

Wasatch Invitational--Saturday, September 8th
This weekend, we will be traveling to Soldier Hollow in Midway, UT for the Wasatch Invitational. It is probably the most challenging course we race all year, and our team absolutely LOVES it!!! We always look forward to this race, and we always perform very well. We expect this weekend to be no exception. Here is the information you need:

From Provo, take U.S. 189 through Provo
Canyon. Immediately at the end of Deer Creek Reservoir, turn left on Route 113
and follow signs to Soldier Hollow.

Upcoming Races
We've got several races over the next week or so that we, as Coaches thought we ought to repeat the details of it for those of you who may have forgotten to mention them to your parents...
- Saturday, September 1st--Utah County Invitational
- This meet was originally on our schedule for Friday. However, it was changed to Saturday morning. The race is at the Lakeside Sports Park in Orem (400 S 1850 W). It's a great 3.1 mile course that is almost entirely grass. Last year our team ran VERY well at this meet. It's a little different format as well--NO VARSITY. They run a Freshman/Sophomore race and Junior/Senior race. Race times are as follows:
- 9:00--Frosh/Soph Girls Race
- 9:30--Frosh/Soph Boys Race
- 10:00--Jr./Sr Girls Race
- 10:20--Jr./Sr Boys Race
- 10:40--Jr./Sr Boys Race #2 (if necessary)
- Tuesday, September 4th--4-school Meet hosted by Juab
- This meet we are still getting details on, as it was just put together this week. What we DO know is that it will be Tuesday afternoon in Juab County. It will NOT be at Juab High School however. Instead we will be racing in the Nebo Loop Scening Byway area. The race will start at Bear Canyon Campground at the top of Salt Creek Road and come down the road to the large parking lot near the fork of the Salt Creek Road and Nebo Loop Road. Please plan for about 20-30 minutes extra drive time from Juab High if you are coming. Here are the driving directions we just received:
- Those traveling from the North, South, or West of Nephi should get on Highway 132 (100 North in Nephi) which crosses Exit 225 on I-15. Go East up Highway 132 into Salt Creek Canyon about 5 miles until you see the sign for “Nebo Loop National Scenic Byway”, then turn left onto Salt Creek Canyon Road. Once on Salt Creek Canyon Road go 3 miles up the road until you come to the large parking lot on your left before the major fork in the road (the fork has Salt Creek Road on the left and Nebo Loop Road on the right). This is the finish line and bus/spectator parking area. The course starting point is 2 miles up the road on your left (Salt Creek Road) at Bear Canyon Campground (so past Ponderosa Campground, Cottonwood Campground, and the Andrew’s Ridge trailhead). All runners must be dropped off by their school buses at the start at least 15 minutes prior to the beginning of the first race (so all Boys and Girls should be dropped off by 3:45 PM at the starting line). Then, all buses/vehicles should proceed back down the road to the large parking area near the finish.

- Saturday, September 8th--Wasatch Invitational @ Soldier Hollow.
- This is ALWAYS one of our team's favorite races of the whole year. It's hilly, it's tough, it's nasty, and it's a TON of fun! This is a TRUE cross country course! I'm assuming the schedule will go something like this:

Team Photo/Grass Relays Results
First off, DON'T FORGET about Team Pictures Monday, August 27th after school. Be sure to come in your uniform, ready for a quick photo before we start practice.
Saturday our team traveled to American Fork for the Grass Relays. Our team had a great meet with a ton of personal bests from those of you who ran there last year, and for the new team members, we saw some great first performances! Our top female performer was Sierra Malm who ran a BLAZING time of 12:27 and finished 9th overall, and breaking the school record on this course by 32 seconds! Our girls team finished in 10th place after a great battle with several teams at the end. On the boys' side, Levi Stone finished with our top performance, finishing in an impressive time of 10:48 (a school record by 12 seconds) to lead our guys to an 8th place finish! Way to go Skyhawks!

This next week's meet schedule has changed a bit since our original schedule was released this past summer. We originally had a meet scheduled at our place for Tuesday, August 28th. However, the schools we originally invited had a scheduling conflict, and as a result we have cancelled that race.
Also, the Utah County Invitational that was originally scheduled for Friday, August 31st is now on Saturday, Sept. 1st. Races will begin at 9:00 am. We will post additional information on the race later in the week.

Grass Relays Information
GRASS RELAYS
This weekend we will be racing in American Fork at the annual American Fork Grass Relays! It's a fun, unique meet that we are looking forward to.
The meet takes place at American Fork High School on their athletic fields. It is a 1-mile loop that the runners will run twice. It is the only 2-mile race we run all season, so it is fun to get a little speed going early in the season! Additionally, the Grass Relays has another way it is unique--HAY BALES!! That's right, there are hay bales set up at various locations around the course for runners to negotiate. It's always an adventure--especially when running through "The Gauntlet."

It is time to get our team order going! The Team Captains have selected some great gear for this season. As Coaches, we want to emphasize that ALL ITEMS ARE OPTIONAL!!!! Do not, in any way, feel any obligation to order all/any gear on the list. We do encourage everyone to buy a team T-shirt, but even that is OPTIONAL. We are just providing options... If your parents, siblings, pets, etc. want gear, feel free to order as many as you wish!

Pre-Region
We had our first meet of the 2012-13 season last night, and it was a good start! We've got a great deal of work to do in the next two months, but we are definitely headed in the right direction! 2012 Cross Country Camp

Place: Shadow Mountain (Hobble Creek Canyon, Springville)
Cost: $40.00--Pay to Salem Hills High School Finance office. Pay by WEDNESDAY, JULY 18TH
What: We will be doing several activities. We will have guest clinicians come up and speak to us on various topics related to distance running/racing. Also, we will go on several team runs, eat good food, play games, participate in team-building activities, campfire silliness, and of course run to "the Lake." You don't want to miss it!!
Remember we need the Parent Permission Slip signed and returned in order to participate! Coach Thompson has them. Get one from him at practice if you don't already have one!

Pre-Region Results
Last night was the Region VIII Pre-Region Meet. It was a great evening and as a team we did pretty well for our first meet of the season! We now can see where we fit into the region, and know what we need to do to move up the standings.

End of Summer/Beginning of the Season
Salem Hills Cross Country Team-
It is time to officially begin our daily afternoon practices! Wahoo! We can't believe the summer's over and the season is already upon us. Hopefully you've been able to log the mileage you wanted to run this summer and are ready to get racing!!!!
We will begin our OFFICIAL season practices tomorrow (MONDAY, August 15th) at 3:00 pm. We'll meet at the track each weekday (Monday-Friday) for practice. It is vital that you are in attendance each day throughout the season...
Our first meet is THIS THURSDAY (the 18th)!!!! We have a lot to do before then, so be sure you are with us! We need your paperwork packet back by TUESDAY (the 16th) to be sure you are eligible to race in our first meet. If it is not turned in, you cannot race! We will have more packets at practice if you don't have one yet.
We'll see you there!

Stewart Falls Team Run!!!
Alright team... this Thursday we will be doing our FAVORITE run of the summer!!! You won't want to miss this!!!! We'll meet at the high school at 6:00 pm and travel up to Stewart Falls. It's going to be AWESOME! Do whatever you need to do to be with us on Thursday! (Also, if you can drive, please do so...we will probably need some help there).

Team Run/Movie Night
Alright Salem Hills Cross Country Runners-
We've got a GREAT Thursday night planned for this week! We'll meet on Thursday (the 28th) at 6:30 pm at the high school track. We'll carpool up to Woodland Hills for a team run.
After the run, we'll head back to the high school and have a TEAM MOVIE NIGHT on the football field. We'll set up our big screen and have a PARTY!! Bring something to sit, lounge or lay on. Bring some munchies, etc. Invite your friends, even if they aren't on our team! The more the merrier!!

After the run, we'll head back to the high school and have a TEAM MOVIE NIGHT on the football field. We'll set up our big screen and have a PARTY!! Bring something to sit, lounge or lay on. Bring some munchies, etc. Invite your friends, even if they aren't on our team! The more the merrier!!

Salem Hills Cross Country Team Camp 2011
Well Team, it's time for our first annual Team Camp! The coaches just got down from the site of our camp, and it is going to be AWESOME!!!! We've got some incredible clinics lined up, some awesome runs, some good food and a TON of fun! You DEFINITELY will not want to miss these three days!
Also, we had our first Thursday night run the other night, and we had a GREAT time!! We ran up to Maple Lake and the Grotto. The weather was great, the lake was beautiful, and the falls were FRIGID!!! Here's some pictures!

Official Start to Season!
Team, IT'S TIME!!! We are starting our official Summer Practices this week. We will meet each Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning at 7:00 am at the high school. Also, each THURSDAY evening we will go run a Trail Run--starting this Thursday evening at 6:30 pm. We will be running up to Maple Lake, then running to the Grotto. Don't miss it!
Also, remember we will be having our Cross Country Camp next Thursday through Saturday (July 7-9). If you missed the paperwork at practice today, you can get it at practice on Wednesday! You DEFINITELY won't want to miss this camp!!!!

Practice
Just a quick reminder about our first team practice on Monday, June 6th. We'll meet at the SHHS track at 7:00 am for a short run and some team building fun!
Hopefully you've been running, but if not, come out and get started on Monday! Regardless of current ability level, we'll make it a positive experience for you.
Oh yeah, we're going to play some sand Volleyball afterward... Come have fun with us!!!

Welcome To Cross Country 2011!
Track Season has ended, the school year is winding down, and that means it is time to start training for Cross Country!!!! What a great time of year! Hopefully you all have had a great school year and are as excited as we are for summer to be here!
Hopefully Cross Country will be a part of your summer plans over the next 3 months! It is a wonderful sport that you will love being a part of. We work hard, and we PLAY just as hard! We have a great time, and would LOVE for you to be part of us!
This summer you need to get out and run some serious mileage so you can be in the kind of shape you want to be in to be successful. We will be working out as a team throughout the summer, and want you to be with us on those days! Here's our summer schedule:
- Mon, June 6th, 13th and 20th--Team meeting/practice @ 7:00 am at the Track
- Starting Mon, June 27th--MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, FRIDAY practice @ 7:00 am at the Track
- Starting Thur, June 30th--Evening Trail Runs as a Team. More Information will be coming...
- Thursday, July 7th-Saturday, July 9th--SALEM HILLS CROSS COUNTRY CAMP @ Shadow Mountain! You won't want to miss this!!
