Great Start to the Season!

Well, we are now through our first week of the season, and as a coaching staff, we are excited by what we've seen! We're looking forward to the next couple of months together with each of you as we work hard and improve our individual and team performances. If you are new to the team, we are THRILLED to have you with us, and we look forward to watching you improve and succeed.

Here are the results of our first three meets:

Tuesday, August 24--Pre-Region @ Maple Mountain. Both teams finished in third at the first meet of our season, with Matthew Chesnut and Kaetlin Bracken finishing as our top runners for each team. Great job to all of our participants. This was a great starting point for the rest of our season!

Saturday, August 28--Grass Relays @ American Fork. What can be better than an early morning 2 mile Cross Country race? How 'bout HAY BALES!!! One of the great Cross Country traditions in the state of Utah took place again this past weekend. Great job by all of our runners! We were thrilled to watch each of you run hard and give us your very best effort out there! A special shout out to Nathan Peck and Karlee Loss for being our top performers!

Tuesday, August 31--Payson, Juab, Spanish Fork @ Salem Hills. Our first home meet of the season was a great success as both our girls and boys teams were able to come away with wins against some of our rival friends. As coaches, we couldn't have been more THRILLED with the effort of each and every member of our team! Way to go each and every one of you! Our girls team scored a near perfect score with Karlee Loss (1st), Kaetlin Bracken (2nd), Ally Duffin (4th), Diana Moreva (5th) and Sierra Malm (6th) leading the way for the Lady Skyhawks. On the boys team, Nathan Peck, Matthew Chesnut and James Wright led the way by going 1st-3rd, respectively. They were followed closely by Collin Steadman and Alex Minson close behind to round out our scoring.

Our next meet will be this FRIDAY (not Saturday as originally scheduled). We will be competing at the Utah County Invitational that will be hosted by Timpanogos High School. The race will be at the Lakeside Sports Park in Orem (400 S 1850 W). The format will be a bit different than most Invitationals, as there is no Varsity race. Everyone will race in their age group race, and scores will be calculated from the fastest 5 times, regardless of which race they were in. The race schedule is as follows:
Freshman/Sophomore Girls at 4:00
Freshman/Sophomore Boys at 4:30
Junior/Senior Girls at 5:00
Junior/Senior Boys at 5:30

The bus will leave the high school promptly at 2:35 on Friday afternoon. Please be ready to go at that time!

Parent Meeting

On TUESDAY JULY 13TH we will be having a Parents' Meeting for all athletes and their parents. We would like to hold the meeting at Salem Hills High School's Cafeteria at 7:00 pm. PLEASE make every effort to be in attendance for this meeting. We will be discussing many important pieces of information pertaining to our upcoming season, including holding a "parent vote" for our two overnight trips we have planned for this season. Official Summer Conditioning Start

Cross Country Athletes-

Hopefully your summer has progressed nicely thus far! We've seen a lot of you running this summer so far, and are looking forward to the rest of you joining us! Now that July is upon us, it's time we start our formal practices each week. It's extremely important for you to make every effort possible to be with us at practice. Without this summer conditioning, we cannot hope to reach our team's full success this fall. PLEASE be with us!

Here's our summer schedule for the remainder of the summer:

Monday, Wednesday and Friday Mornings: 7:00 am. We meet at the high school track and head out to run. Also, we will begin lifting weights on a regular basis in the mornings as well.

Thursday evenings: 6:30 pm. We will meet at the high school on Thursdays (STARTING THIS THURSDAY) and head out on a trail run somewhere around the valley. This Thursday (July 1st), we will meet at the school and head up Payson canyon to run a couple trails. Come ready to run and have a GREAT time! We will have a couple school suburbans to help transport athletes, so you've got no excuse!

Also, we will be having a parent's meeting on TUESDAY, JULY 13th at the high school. More details will be coming, but please add this to your calendar, as it is VITAL for you and/or your parents to be present!

Pre-Season Information

Athletes-

Welcome to Salem Hills Cross Country 2010! We're excited to have you with us, and we look forward to working with each and every one of you throughout the coming summer and fall. Whether you are a returning member of our team or you are new to the sport and/or our team, we are thrilled to have you as one of us!

A couple quick items:

1- We want to make sure we have an accurate email address for each of you. If you didn't receive an email from us today (5/20), will you please reply and let us know what your email address is? If your parents want to be on our email list, feel free to get us their address!

2- We want you and all your friends! Cross Country, like most everything else in life, is more fun when you do it with a bunch of friends! So, get your friends out with you. Even if they have no running experience, we want them to be with us. The more athletes the better! Please get your friends to come out and be with us!

3- We want to remind you to get running right away, working on getting into shape for the season. The more miles you can log this summer, the greater level of success you'll experience this fall as we compete. Be sure to log your miles each day in your team Running Log we gave you at the meeting on Tuesday. Set a goal for how many miles you want to run this summer, then keep track of them to see your progress. We will award T-shirts for athletes who hit certain milestones (300, 500, 700) during the summer.

4- We will start practicing next week. For those who can make it, we'll practice on Tuesday morning at 8:00 am (for the high school students who don't have school). We'll run together on Wednesday (May 26th) at 2:45, then Friday the 28th at 8:00 am. Starting May 31st, we'll run on Mon, Wed and Fri at 7:00 am. Be there every day that you can! We want to see your smiling face! :)

Again, we are EXCITED to have you with us, and hope you stick with it. We as coaches are committed to making you your very best, while at the same time having fun. It's going to take some hard work and dedication on your part, but we are confident in your ability to be successful in this great sport!
