Salem Hills Open House

Just thought I'd post a quick reminder to everyone about the Open House this Monday, June 2nd from 3:00-6:30 pm over at Salem Hills High School. All the faculty and staff will be there to welcome you and help you find your way around the building. Be sure to find me while your there and say 'Hi.' I'll be wandering around the building, so look for me. My room is upstairs (I have no idea what room number it is), so maybe I'll be in there.

The building is really amazing! I've been in there a half dozen times, and every time I go in there I become more and more excited. Last time I was in there, they were polishing the tile floors and moving desks and chairs into the various classrooms. It looks like I real school, and you will be THRILLED with how it looks.

If, for some reason I have not met you yet, please post a comment on this blog and let me know who you are. Give me your name, grade, and phone number, so I and the captains can get in contact with you in the coming weeks. We have about 35 athletes signed up, so we're still in desperate need of more runners, so if you're thinking about, come give Cross-country a try!

It's Time to Meet

Okay athletes, it's time to meet! I'd like to have a brief meeting with all potential Cross-country runners this week. I've scheduled two different meetings, depending on where you currently attend school. You can attend either meeting. The meeting will be brief, but it's important for you to be in attendance. Here's the dates and times:

Spanish Fork High School: We will meet on WEDNESDAY, May 21st in my classroom (B-1) right after school.

Payson High School: We will meet on THURSDAY, May 22nd in Mr. Griffin's room right after school.

Again, we will keep the meeting to about 30 minutes, but it is VERY important that you are in attendance at one of the two meetings. We will be discussing summer workout schedules, team uniforms, team captains, etc. I look forward to meeting with each of you.

Let's get going.

Okay, I think it is time we start preparing for Cross-country season. I've been waiting to get too excited, as we've been in the middle of Track season. However, since State is the next two days, it's time to start talking about and planning our 1st Cross-country team.

I hope you are as excited and anxious as I am to get started. I have spent a lot of hours thinking, planning, and preparing. I am confident that we will win the first ever Region Championship for Salem Hills H.S., if not the first two. In order to be successful, however, we need NUMBERS!!!! I cannot over-emphasize how important numbers are. As a small school this first year, we need to have a bigger team than our region opponents. The more depth we have, the more likely we will be able to put together a powerful Varsity team that can compete with the other schools in our region.

We need you. If you are an experienced cross-country runner, we need your experience, dedication and leadership. If you are new to the sport, we need your enthusiasm, your talent and your competitiveness. If you are not sure if you want to be a part of the Cross-country team or not, give us a try and THEN make a decision. I promise, you'll have a good time.

Not only do we need you, but we need your friends. We need numbers, like I said. Cross-country will be SO much more fun if your friends are out with us--even if they aren't that good of runners. We take all types of students. If they are willing to work hard, we want them. Each athlete should set a goal of recruiting AT LEAST two other people to the Cross-country team. I can promise you that we will be VERY successful if we can get our teams to about 25+ boys and 25+ girls. I need your help!
