Ready or not, it's here!  The season gets under way this WEDNESDAY evening with our PRE-REGION Meet!  Here's the necessary Information:

Bus Departure:  4:40 pm from SHHS
Race Location:  Spanish Fork Sports Complex (the race starts and finishes in the field near the tennis courts)
Race Times:  Girls race at 6:00pm, Boys race at 6:30pm

                 PAYSON NIGHT HUNT
This Friday, we will be traveling South to Payson for their annual "Payson Night Hunt." It's a great meet under the lights of the Payson Sports Complex!  Here's the details:

Bus Departure:  5:40 pm from SHHS
Race Location:  Payson Sports Complex (across the street from the high school)
Race Times:  JV Girls race at 7:00pm, JV Boys race at 6:30pm, Varsity Girls race at 8:00pm, Varsity Boys race at 8:30pm.

Next weekend, we will be heading to Logan for the Aggie Invitational!  It's an overnight trip!  The Aggie Invitational is a great meet, and we have a TON of fun together!  We will race Friday night, stay in Ogden for the night, then do a trail run together Saturday morning before returning home!  We hope everyone can make it!

Cost: $50 (Covers bus, hotel, dinner and breakfast)
12:30 pm --depart from SHHS
4:00 pm--Races start (Rookie, JV and Varsity races)
8:00 pm--Return to hotel for Pizza/Pool Party!
10:00 pm--Bed checks
7:00 am--Breakfast at the hotel
9:00 am--Trail run to Elephant Rock (Bountiful)
2:00 pm-ish--Arrive at SHHS

                TEAM FUNDRAISER
This season, we will once again be offering Mountainland Apples and Peaches for athletes to sell.  The proceeds of the fundraiser will go to offset athlete's costs for our California trip and/or other team costs.  

It is an early crop this year for the peaches and apples, so we will be starting this fundraiser NOW, rather than later in the season!  Your athlete should have an information/tracking sheet they got at practice.  However, here's the basics:

Peaches: 22 lb. box for $20 (athlete profits $5/box)
Order must be placed by Thursday, Sept 1st

Apples: 14 lb. box for $20 (athlete profits $5/box)
Order must be placed by Wednesday, Sept 14th

Cross Country Camp

Salem Hills High School
Cross-Country Summer Camp
July 19-21, 2016

We will be conducting our annual Salem Hills High Cross country camp this summer.  This camp will take place up Hobble Creek Canyon and at the Nebo School District owned cabins at Shadow Mountain.  We have outlined our basic itinerary over the course of the three days for your convenience.  Also, we have listed the necessary things you must take care of prior to our departure.  PLEASE pay the finance office $50.00.

To Do:
  • Pay the $50 Camp fee to Salem Hills High School
  • Return the Activity Consent Form to Coach Thompson or Hughes
  • Bring all items on packing list
  • Be in relatively good shape
  • Be ready for a fun three days!!!

Packing List:
  • Sleeping bag/Sleeping pad
  • Pillow
  • Flashlight and good batteries
  • Bug repellant
  • Towel and washcloth
  • Personal items (deodorant, contact lenses, hairspray, Soap, Toothbrush/paste, etc.)
  • Personal First Aid kit (Band-aids, Neosporin, etc)
  • Bag for dirty clothes
  • Rain gear (lightweight poncho, etc.)
  • Light parka/jacket/Hoody
  • Plenty of  T-shirts
  • Running shorts
  • Running shoes (and a backup pair, if desired)
  • Plenty of  socks
  • Long sleeved running shirt(s)

  • Sunglasses, if desired

  • 8:00 am—Meet at SHHS to bus up to Shadow Mountain
  • 9:30 am—Arrive at Shadow Mountain, set up camp
  • 10:30 am—Freetime, Set up personal space
  • 12:00 pm—Lunch
  • 1:00 pm—Team building activities
  • 2:00 pm—Free time (horseshoes, volleyball, Frisbee, cards, etc)
  • 4:00 pm—Sports Psychology Clinic
  • 4:30 pm—Team Run
  • 5:30 pm—Dinner
  • 6:30 pm—Free time
  • 7:30 pm—Guest speakers/Clinics
  • 9:00 pm—Bonfire—Skits!
  • 12:00 am—Lights out

Wednesday, July 20th:

End of Season

As we wrap up the season, we as coaches just wanted to say thank you to all of you who have made this season great--both as athletes and as parents.  We know how much sacrifice is required to participate and excel at a sport, especially one like Cross Country, so we take our hats off to you for your commitment.  It's been a pleasure coaching you!

As part of tradition, we would like to celebrate the season as a team at our annual Team Banquet.  All team members and their parents are encouraged to attend.  Dinner will once again be catered by Clarion Gardens Catering, so you know the food will be outstanding!  We do need to get a head count ASAP, so if you could please go to THIS LINK and RSVP, that would be magnificent!  Here's the information:

This week's "STUFF"

With one race under our belts and two more this week, the season is starting to really get rolling!  This season goes by SO FAST, so buckle up!  Here's what we need to let you know about for this week:

Results throughout the season will be available at www.athletic.net.  The Pre-Region Results can be found HERE

Tonight (Monday) we have our annual Cross Country Clinic/Spike Night hosted by Tyler Shepherd and Endurance Athletics.  It is at 7:00 pm this evening in the Endurance Athletics Store (735 N. Main St in Spanish Fork).  It will be a great informational night and lots of great shoes discounted!  Come support our local running store!

We have our first Home meet of the season on Tuesday, August 25th.  Payson, Spanish Fork and Juab will be competing against us.  The races will start at 4:00 with the Girls, and the Boys race to immediately follow.  WE NEED PARENT HELP, so if your parents are available, please let Coach Thompson know RIGHT AWAY!!  Thank you in advance!

This Saturday we will be traveling to American Fork High School for the AF Grass Relays, which is a fun, unique race.  It is a 2-mile race (rather than the standard 3-mile race).  The Varsity races will be run Relay style with 5 runners running consecutively using a baton.  The JV races will be run as normal.  It's a great time!  The bus will be leaving Salem Hills at 6:15 am.  Don't be late!  The first races start at 8am!!  Here's the schedule:
8:00 A.M.: Girls J.V. 2 Mile Race-Frosh/Soph.
8:25 A.M.: Boys J.V. 2 Mile Race -Frosh/Soph
8:40 A.M.: Girls J.V. 2 Mile Race - Jr./Sr.
9:00 A.M.: Boys J.V. 2 Mile Race -Jr./Sr.
9:15 A.M.: Girls Varsity Relay ( Top 5 Girls, 2 Miles Each Leg)

10:35 A.M.: Boys Varsity Relay (Top 5 Boys, 2 Miles Each Leg)

Next weekend (Sept 4-5) we will be traveling to Logan for the Utah State University Aggie Invitational.  This is our 3rd year traveling North for this meet, and it is a great race with magnificent competition!!  As part of the trip, we turn it into an overnight adventure for the team!  We will stay in Ogden Friday evening at the Comfort Suites, then get up Saturday morning to go on a great Trail Run in the Ogden area!  You won't want to miss this great time!  
We need to finalize Hotel rooms this week, so please pay the $50 to the finance office by THIS THURSDAY (AUG 27) so we can finalize our plans!  It's going to be awesome!!!

Once again this season, ENDURANCE ATHLETICS in Spanish Fork has graciously offered to host a "SPIKE NIGHT" for our team.  There will be training shoes and racing shoes on sale at large discounts, as well as Representatives from some shoe companies and a guest speaker.  It is a GREAT evening that is well worth attending.  PARENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND!  Here's the details:

It's Time!!

As the school year comes screaming at us, so does the official beginning of our Cross Country Season!  Our first meet is mere days away, and there is MUCH to be done!  Here's what you need to know:

  1. OFFICIAL team practices begin on Monday, August 10th @ 3:00pm.  We will begin taking roll each day and holding you accountable for absences, so be sure to be there each day starting on MONDAY @ 3:00!!
  2. If you have not already done so, you need to IMMEDIATELY register for the team with the Utah High School Activities Association (UHSAA) by registering on www.registermyathlete.com.  There are step-by-step instructions on how to do this in the links at the top of this page.  Please do this IMMEDIATELY!!
  3. All athletes must receive a Medical Physical Exam each year to participate in high school athletics.  This MUST be done IMMEDIATELY as well.  The necessary form can be found in the links at the top of this page.
  4. Each athlete must pay the Nebo School District required Activity/Participation Fee for Cross Country.  It is $60 again this year.  You can pay this at the Salem Hills Finance Office, or online at www.myschoolfees.com.  Please pay this IMMEDIATELY!
  5. Our first meet will be on Thursday, August 20th @ Springville High.  Girls will race at 6:30pm and Boys will race at 7:00pm, I believe.  More information will be coming soon!
  6. The Salem Days 5K is this Saturday morning (Aug 8th).  We want all of you to run in this race.  Registration can be done at the Salem Rec Office or at the pond Saturday morning prior to 6:45 am.  The 5K begins at 7:30am at the Salem Pond.  PLEASE COME RUN!!

Driving Directions To Cross Country Camp

Any parents wishing to join us at camp are MORE THAN WELCOME to come up! We love having visitors. Here's the directions, in case you want/need to join us!
Directions to Shadow Mountain

  • Drive up Hobble Creek Canyon
  • Continue past the Golf Course, till the road forks
  • Take the LEFT FORK
  • Drive 4.5 miles up the Left Fork of Hobble Creek Canyon
  • You will see a turn-off on the LEFT side of the road.  There’s a small street sign that says “Whittemore Dr.”  Take this turn-off.
  • Follow Whittemore Dr. up about 2.1 miles.  It will turn from pavement to dirt about ¼ mi up.  Each time the road forks (over the 2.1 miles), keep on Whittemore Dr.
  • At some point along the road, you will come across a gate --I’m not sure exactly where it is… There is an access code that must be entered.  It is 9512.
  • At about 2.1 miles, the road will fork again.  There’s a cabin up on your right.  Take the LEFT fork, called Oakwood Dr.  
  • The road will wind around for another .7 miles, and eventually becomes Nebo Circle.  You’ll pass through a gate, and into camp!  WELCOME!!!
